India raises concerns with the US over cancelled H-1B visa interviews.
On December 26, 2025, India stated that it had alerted the United States to its concerns regarding the cancellation of numerous Indian applicants’ pre-arranged H1B visa interviews and that both parties were actively involved in the matter.
In order to examine their social media posts and online profiles, the interviews of thousands of candidates for H-1B visas that were supposed to begin in India in the middle of this month have been abruptly postponed by several months. U.S. immigration officials emailed some of the applicants, whose visa appointments were set for last week, to let them know that their interviews would now take place as late as May of next year.
At his weekly media briefing, External Affairs Ministry spokeswoman Randhir Jaiswal stated that the Indian government has received multiple complaints from Indian citizens who are having trouble rescheduling their visa appointments. “We have flagged these issues and our concerns to the U.S. side, both here in New Delhi and in Washington, D.C,” he added, noting that visa related matters are under the sovereign realm of any nation. According to Jaiswal, a number of Indians have been stuck in India for long periods of time, which has caused them and their families a great deal of “hardship.”
Due to increased vetting procedures, several H-1B visa candidates have had their scheduled interviews cancelled, which has caused major delays in their return to the United States. All applicants who previously had appointments will have their interviews rescheduled starting on December 15, 2025. Since they lack a valid H1B visa to return to the United States for their jobs, the majority of them were already in India and are currently unable to do so until their new interview dates.
