Delhi Tourism launches the double-decker “Dekho Meri Dilli” tourist bus service.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta flagged off the electric double-decker tourist bus service, “Dekho Meri Dilli,” which the Delhi government introduced on Friday with the goal of providing tourists with an organised tour of the capital’s main historical monuments and landmarks.

The 63-seater double-decker bus was unveiled at Rafi Marg by the chief minister, along with senior officials and Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra. As part of the event, the chief minister then rode the bus to the Prime Ministers’ Museum.

According to a statement, the Delhi tourism department launched the all-electric bus using a public-private partnership model. It includes a panoramic upper deck, cutting-edge safety systems, and contemporary facilities to give passengers a better touring experience.

INA-Delhi Haat, Vijay Chowk, Rashtrapati Bhavan, North Block, South Block, the National Museum, the National Gallery of Modern Art, the Prime Ministers’ Museum, the National War Memorial, and India Gate are just a few of the major sites in central Delhi that will be covered by the service, which is designed for both domestic and foreign tourists and runs on a fixed circuit in partnership with the Hinduja Group.

The bus service would start daily at 9 am from Delhi Haat, INA, according to the announcement. Evening excursions are also being organised; the itinerary is almost complete, and the schedule is set up to coincide with the closing times of the museums along the route.

According to Gupta, the effort was a step in showcasing Delhi’s historical and cultural heritage while positioning it as a cutting-edge, top-tier travel destination.

Visitors may experience several stages of Delhi’s development in a single circuit thanks to the city’s blend of historical sites and contemporary icons like Bharat Mandapam and the new Parliament complex, she said.

The chief minister added that the zero-emission electric bus is projected to lower carbon emissions while enhancing the traveller experience, which is in line with the government’s emphasis on clean tourism and green mobility.

The double-decker bus’s introduction, according to Tourism Minister Mishra, is a part of a larger initiative to promote Delhi as a travel destination rather than just a stopover.

He claimed that the city could provide a distinctive and all-encompassing tourism experience because it is home to more than a thousand protected monuments from the ancient, mediaeval, and colonial eras.

According to Mishra, plans are in motion to host international events like an international film festival, which will give the concert economy, live entertainment, tourism, and creator economy new life. In the upcoming years, transportation infrastructure will also be updated and electrified to further boost tourism.

According to the statement, the bus can carry more than 63 people in addition to the driver and was built to function in Lutyens’ Delhi without encountering problems with low tree canopies or overhead electrical cables.

A qualified tour guide will be present to inform guests about the cultural and historical significance of the locations visited.

A fixed fee of Rs 500 plus five percent GST has been set for adults and Rs 300 plus five percent GST for children aged five to ten. According to the statement, children under five travel free of charge. Tickets will also be sold offline at specific booking kiosks located throughout the city and online at the Delhi Tourism website.

The introduction also signifies the return of Delhi’s double-decker buses, which were phased down in 1989 after being run by the Delhi Transport Corporation as “Suvidha” services.
