Polar Latitudes Adds “Discoverer” to Fleet for 2026–27 Antarctica Season.

Discoverer, a new expedition ship added to Polar Latitudes Expeditions’ fleet, will start sailing Antarctic expeditions in the 2026–2027 season.

The ship, formerly known as Exploris One, will take the place of Seaventure in the company’s Antarctica program. As Polar Latitudes moves from chartered to owned ships, it represents a strategic change that gives them more control over expedition planning and onboard experiences.

Chief Commercial Officer Anders Kristensen commented on the development, saying, “We strengthen our ability to shape the expedition experience from start to finish by replacing a chartered vessel with one that we own.” This enables us to improve every facet of the trip, from onboard education to expedition preparation, guaranteeing that visitors have the most immersive experience possible in Antarctica.

Constructed at the Rauma shipyard in Finland, Discoverer has a lengthy history in arctic research, having sailed as Prince Albert II and Silver Explorer before. In 2023, the ship had a significant renovation that included renovated public areas, modernised systems, and improved guest accommodations. Before its debut in Antarctica, more improvements are planned.

All scheduled Antarctic departures that were originally slated for Seaventure will be operated by Discoverer starting in the 2026–2027 season, with passengers travelling in comparable cabin classifications. Additionally, the addition will allow the firm to extend its Antarctic program, including its flagship Crossing the Antarctic Circle tour and additional sailings during periods of high travel demand.

Beyond Antarctica, the ship will travel to far-off places for its sibling company, Heritage Expeditions. It is anticipated that Discoverer would traverse the Chilean fjords in early 2027 and increase the company’s presence in Patagonia.

The growth coincides with Indian tourists’ growing interest in expedition sailing, especially in far-off places like the Arctic and Antarctica. With an emphasis on wildlife, exploration, and ethical tourism, Polar Latitudes seeks to provide unique, small-ship experiences.
