South Africa Introduces MEETS Visa Programme to Boost International Events.
The Meetings, Exhibitions, Events and Tourism Scheme (MEETS), a new visa reform initiative, was introduced by the South African Department of Home Affairs with the goal of enhancing the nation’s standing as a top international destination for conferences, exhibitions, athletic competitions, and significant cultural and entertainment events.
The program creates a structure for handling numerous, urgent group visa applications related to significant worldwide events. It is intended to facilitate quicker processing via digital technologies and simplify application processes.
Subject to qualifying requirements, domestic event planners with appropriate expertise are encouraged to submit expressions of interest to take part in the program. To control participation and execution, authorised organisers will sign official contracts with the Department of Home Affairs.
Huge-scale events that draw huge numbers of international participants are frequently held in South Africa, such as international academic conferences, sporting competitions, music concerts, and international trade events like Mining Indaba. Teams, artists, delegates, and technical personnel must frequently arrange travel for these events within tight deadlines.
By modernising visa procedures for large delegations via a more coordinated and safe method, the MEETS program aims to support these criteria. With the goal of increasing efficiency in managing large numbers of visa applications, it allows streamlined online submissions customised for significant international events.
