IndiGo Launches Daily Direct Kolkata–Shanghai Flights to Boost India–China Connectivity.

On March 29, 2026, IndiGo launched a daily nonstop service between Kolkata and Shanghai, enhancing air connectivity between China and India.

The launch expands upon IndiGo’s recent growth in the Chinese market, which included the launching of services from Delhi and the restoration of flights from Kolkata to Guangzhou. Airbus A320neo planes are used to fly the route from Kolkata to Shanghai.

IndiGo hopes to meet the increasing demand in the trade, business, and leisure sectors by adding Shanghai to its network. Convenient one-stop connections from other Indian cities, such as Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Pune, Jaipur, and Bhubaneswar, would also be made possible by the new route via Kolkata.

Vinay Malhotra, Head of Global Sales at IndiGo stated,  “We are happy to start our daily, direct flights between Kolkata and Shanghai, further strengthening connectivity between India and People’s Republic of China. We currently run 21 weekly flights to mainland China in addition to our daily connection from Delhi and Kolkata to Guangzhou. Shanghai is a major hub for international trade and one of the world’s top financial and commercial hubs. Increased business and leisure travel options, as well as increased cultural and economic contact between the two nations, will be made possible by this new route. IndiGo is dedicated to creating critical air connections that link India with important overseas markets as we strive to grow our global network.”
