Ladakh declares the state of the hotel and guest house industries.
In a post on X, Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena stated that hotels and guest homes in Ladakh that are registered with the Tourism Department should be given “industry” status. This would allow them to receive incentives, discounts, and infrastructure support on par with other industrial units in the Union Territory.
He claimed that the choice is consistent with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ongoing emphasis on boosting domestic travel through incentives and governmental assistance. The directive will take effect on June 1st, 2026.
The LG outlined the advantages of the new policy, stating that hospitality facilities will be eligible for water and electricity tariffs at industrial rates, which are less than current commercial prices, due to their “industry” classification.
“In addition to being exempt from property tax, the units will be eligible for concessional bank loans under state and central industrial policies,” he stated.
He added that the move will boost investor trust in Ladakh’s tourist industry while lowering operating expenses for hotels and guest houses.
The Lieutenant Governor expressed optimism that the new incentives will assist satisfy the growing demand from tourists and promote the growth of the hotel business in Ladakh, describing the decision as a long-pending desire of stakeholders.
He went on to say that the policy will make it possible for the hotel industry to grow and flourish, giving tourists visiting Ladakh a better and more memorable experience.
