Vietjet announces new direct route between Ho Chi Minh City and Western Sydney

Vietjet announced a new direct service between Ho Chi Minh City and Western Sydney, which would begin on January 9, 2027, after exchanging a Memorandum of Understanding with Western Sydney International Airport (WSI). Vietnam’s General Secretary and President To Lam signed the Memorandum of Understanding while on a state visit to Australia. In addition to promoting tourism, trade, investment, innovation, and interpersonal connections, the new route seeks to increase air connectivity between the two nations.

At the Tech Connect Forum in Sydney, the agreement was signed in front of senior government officials, corporate executives from both nations, and Phan Van Giang, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence of Vietnam and a member of the Politburo.

The new route, which will run two weekly round-trip flights between Ho Chi Minh City and Western Sydney, will enable more people and goods to travel between the two economies and promote growing commerce and investment.

Every Tuesday and Saturday, flights will leave Ho Chi Minh City at 9:20 p.m. and arrive in WSI at 10:00 a.m. Every Wednesday and Sunday at 12:05 p.m., return flights will take off from WSI and arrive in Ho Chi Minh City at 4:30 p.m. (local time).

According to Simon Hickey, CEO of Western Sydney International Airport, “Western Sydney is one of the nation’s most diverse and rapidly growing regions, proudly home to more than half of Greater Sydney’s Vietnamese population over 70,000 people who regularly visit friends and relatives.”

WSI is a new, round-the-clock international gateway for Sydney and Australia’s first significant international greenfield airport construction in over 50 years. Up to 82 million travellers will be able to go thru WSI each year.
