Lufthansa and Munich Airport expand stopovers in India and Asia.

Travellers from India, China, Japan, South Korea, and Thailand can now prolong their stay in Munich and enjoy the Bavarian city and surrounding area thanks to Lufthansa and Munich Airport‘s joint Lufthansa Stopover Program.

The program, which was introduced earlier this year for travellers from Singapore and the US, is now accessible in five more foreign countries.

The program allows eligible Lufthansa travellers passing through Munich to convert their connection into a brief stay of 24 to 7 days, giving them the chance to see Munich and other regions of Bavaria before continuing on.

Twelve partners presently participate in the Stopover Program, providing experiences and services related to lodging, auto rentals, sightseeing, and shopping. Travellers can schedule their stopover based on their personal interests and the duration of their stay.

By encouraging foreign travellers to include Munich and Bavaria in their itineraries, the program seeks to establish Munich as more than just a transit hub.

Heiko Reitz, Lufthansa Executive Board Member and Hub Manager Munich stated, “Many passengers want to do more than just transfer at our hub; they want to discover Munich and Bavaria as an additional travel destination. With the Lufthansa Stopover Program, we give clients the chance to add a destination to their flight, giving them the chance to enjoy local cuisine, culture, and tourist attractions. Over time, we intend to broaden the initiative to encompass additional markets and tourist partners, providing foreign visitors with an even greater array of alluring possibilities in Munich and Bavaria.

According to Jost Lammers, CEO of Munich Airport, “Bavaria is one of Germany’s most popular tourist destinations. We are collaborating with Lufthansa to provide more chances to draw foreign visitors to Munich and the surrounding area through the stopover program. This will benefit local tourism providers as well as other businesses. The study shows how Munich Airport and Lufthansa can connect the region’s offerings with global demand.”
