In Egypt, Viking Sekhmet is delivered.

After a handover ceremony at the Massara shipyard in Cairo, Viking received the Viking Sekhmet, its newest river ship in Egypt. The ship, which was specifically designed to navigate the Nile River, will increase Viking’s Egypt cruise offerings. Two 12-day excursions are planned for 2027.
Leah Talactac, President and CEO of Viking said, “The Nile has connected people with the history and culture of Egypt for thousands of years, and it continues to be a destination that inspires curious travellers. We are happy to provide even more chances for inquisitive tourists to experience Egypt in Viking comfort with the introduction of the exquisite Viking Sekhmet.”
There are 41 outdoor staterooms on the Viking Sekhmet that can seat 82 people. The ship’s distinctive square bow and indoor/outdoor Aquavit Terrace are only two examples of the company’s original Scandinavian design, which was inspired by Viking’s river and ocean fleet.
The ship will conduct the company’s well-known Pharaohs & Pyramids itinerary in addition to the new Total Eclipse on the Nile itinerary in 2027, adding to Viking’s expanding fleet of Nile vessels.
Both 12-day programs start with a three-night hotel stay in Cairo, where visitors can visit the Grand Egyptian Museum, the Sakkara necropolis, the Great Pyramids of Giza, and the Mosque of Muhammad Ali.
After flying to Luxor, guests explore the Temples of Luxor and Karnak before embarking on an eight-day round-trip Nile cruise. The schedule includes visits to the High Dam in Aswan, the Temple of Khnum in Esna, the Dendera Temple complex in Qena, and Tutankhamen’s tomb in the Valley of the Kings. Before returning to Cairo for one last nite, visitors also tour a Nubian community that has a traditional elementary school.
According to its committed orderbook, Viking anticipates receiving 19 more river ships by 2028, 11 ocean ships by 2032, and two expedition ships by 2031 as part of its long-term fleet expansion strategy.
In order to support the ongoing growth of its destination-focused cruise portfolio, Viking anticipates that these additions will increase its fleet to 114 river ships by 2028 and a total of 28 ocean and adventure ships by 2032.
