Michalis Kouveliotis replaces Dimitris Gerogiannis as CEO of AEGEAN.

Michalis Kouveliotis has been named CEO of AEGEAN, replacing Dimitris Gerogiannis, who had led the airline for 20 years.
As a founding member of AEGEAN’s leadership team, Gerogiannis will continue to provide advisory support to the company while managing the Technical Base and Training Center, which is a component of the Group’s new development efforts.
Kouveliotis served as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of AEGEAN prior to the company’s listing on the Athens Stock Exchange. He was named Deputy CEO in early 2025 as part of the company’s leadership succession strategy, assuming responsibility for organising its business divisions and getting ready for the changeover.
“Dimitris Gerogiannis, along with Theodoros Vassilakis, shaped the quality and customer service culture, as well as the principles of fairness and collaboration within our company,” said AEGEAN Chairman Eftichios Vassilakis. Dimitris possesses a unique talent for fusing technological know-how with a human touch. He is a co-founder of the business for all of us, and the transfer of the CEO role will not alter this. He will, after all, continue to assist AEGEAN as it transitions from its original leadership group to the upcoming generation of executives.
“Michalis Kouveliotis, who is taking over as CEO, has already demonstrated his ability to support the company through both periods of growth and crisis,” he continued. As Deputy CEO, he has spearheaded the transformation process over the last two years, and his enthusiasm and optimistic outlook have already made a significant impact on the company. I have no doubt that he will succeed in his new position.
With a focus on upholding the airline’s established service standards while enhancing internal cooperation and nurturing fresh talent, the move represents a change from AEGEAN’s original leadership team to its next generation of executives.
Vassilakis emphasised the significance of upholding the company’s fundamental principles while refocusing on organisational development, network expansion, and product development.
“Building on the legacy of our founding team as they gradually step back, our main goal should be to empower and further develop the collaboration between the company’s second generation of executives,” he said.
AEGEAN hopes to preserve leadership continuity while advancing its operational and development initiatives with Kouveliotis taking over as CEO and Gerogiannis continuing as an advisor.
