WOTF Group and TAFI strengthen Greece-India ties with direct Mumbai–Athens flights.

In conjunction with the first IndiGo direct flight from Mumbai to Athens, World of Travel Factory (WOTF Group) recently organised a high-impact agent education visit to Athens in partnership with TAFI Western India Chapter.

A select group of 17 TAFI-member travel executives from western India came together for the effort, which reflected a common industry goal: to strategically develop Greece’s destination narrative in the Indian market while utilising enhanced air connectivity. TAFI Western India and the WOTF Group

The carefully planned schedule was created to highlight both Rhodes and Athens as separate but complimentary experiences, showcasing Rhodes as a culturally rich island destination with depth beyond the typical Greek circuit and highlighting Athens’ potential as a two to three night immersive stay. The six day trip included guided tours of the Acropolis and Acropolis Museum, a full day sail to the islands of Aegina, Poros, and Hydra in the Argosaronic Gulf, and a thorough examination of Rhodes’ mediaeval Old Town, which included the Grand Master’s Palace. Highlights including Lindos, Kallithea Springs, the Throne of Helios 9D experience, and carefully planned dining experiences, like a traditional Greek folklore banquet, gave visitors a firsthand look at Greece’s capacity to produce diverse, well rounded itineraries across numerous locations. Global Destinations, the WOTF Group’s representative in India, is still spearheading Greece’s market growth, trade engagement, and destination education programs. “The launch of direct air connectivity between India and Greece marked a significant milestone for the Indian outbound market,” stated Pranav Kapadia, Founder and Director of Global Destinations, in reference to the educational tour’s strategic importance. Beyond standard itineraries, this tour program aimed to enhance trade understanding of Greece as a multifaceted, dynamic destination. Travel agents were able to develop a deeper understanding of their products and create well-rounded Greek vacations that were suited to the changing tastes of Indian tourists thanks to first hand experience in more recent areas.

“This educational tour was created to reinforce Greece’s positioning as a true year round destination, with a purposeful focus on showcasing its appeal beyond the traditional summer season,” said Nikolas Kavalieros, CEO, WOTF Group. Through the use of agents in the winter, the initiative brought attention to Greece as a desirable destination for families and honeymooners looking for deep, culturally rich experiences in a more laid back and elegant setting. The tour gave trade partners first hand experience to culturally rich locations like Athens and Rhodes, as India continues to be a priority growth market for Greece, bolstered by improved air connections and increased cultural resonance. All of these experiences showed that Greece could provide the Indian market with consistent, long-term engagement while providing cinematic, well rounded, multi destination itineraries throughout the seasons.

In order to strengthen Greece’s competitiveness in a quickly growing outbound travel industry, the project emphasised a cooperative approach to destination development that combined improved air access, trade education, and experiential exposure.
