Hong Kong International Airport to open new T2 departure facilities in May 2027.
A significant milestone in Hong Kong International Airport’s (HKIA) phased expansion plans will be reached on May 27, 2026, when the airport opens its new passenger departure facilities at Terminal 2 (T2).
Mable Chan, Secretary for Transport and Logistics, and Fred Lam, Chairman of Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK), made the announcement during HKIA’s Chinese New Year festivities.
In accordance with traffic demand, the enhanced T2’s passenger facilities are being put into service in stages. It is anticipated that HKIA will be better able to handle the predicted increase in passenger volumes and improve the overall travel experience by launching the departure facilities before the summer peak season.
The enlarged T2 will provide a new generation of intelligent check-in services and be seamlessly integrated with Terminal 1 and the Airport Express platform. With over 15 airlines that primarily fly short-haul and regional flights, T2 is intended to be a chic and lively destination for leisure tourists. The airlines will transition to T2 gradually.
With a strong and extensive program of familiarisation activities, training sessions, drills, and exercises already in place, AAHK has been collaborating closely with pertinent government agencies, airlines, passenger handling agents, and other stakeholders in order to get ready for the commissioning of T2’s departure facilities.
On September 23, 2025, the Coach Hall at T2 opened for business as part of the new terminal’s initial phase. In addition to 41 parking spaces for tour buses, cross-border coaches, limousines, crew and resident coaches, the Coach Hall also has ticket booths for cross-border transportation that connects to over 110 locations around the Greater Bay Area.
