Terminal 3 at Frankfurt Airport will open on April 23.
On April 23, 2026, Fraport will open Terminal 3 at Frankfurt Airport, furthering the airport’s long-term growth plan. The building, which is regarded as one of the most sophisticated airport terminals in Europe, is currently in the last stages of preparation after all formal inspections were successfully completed.
As the terminal is ready to start operations in 2026, the emphasis has moved to equipment finalisation and extensive operational trials involving some 8,000 test passengers.
Terminal 3, which can accommodate up to 19 million people a year, will have three piers for both Schengen and non-Schengen traffic, totalling 1,400 meters in length, and at least 33 aircraft parking spaces. With a total floor area of over 403,000 square meters across all levels, the property has a footprint of about 176,000 square meters.
In addition to a sophisticated baggage-handling system with up to 15 claim carousels, the terminal will have 112 check-in counters and luggage drop-off locations. A new people mover system will improve connectivity between Terminals 1, 2, and 3. It will take about eight minutes to go to each terminal.
A 6,000-square-meter plaza with a variety of food, shopping, and recreational opportunities will be located in the heart of Terminal 3. Additionally, the terminal will have designated Work & Connect areas for business travellers, children’s play facilities, and lounge areas with views of the apron.
Frankfurt Airport’s capacity and passenger experience will be improved by Terminal 3, which is easily accessible by road, public transportation, and a new parking lot with 8,500 places. This will strengthen Frankfurt Airport’s standing as a key European aviation hub.
