Finnair launches new onboard meals on long-haul and European flights.

In order to further improve the in-flight eating experience on its long-haul and European flights, Finnair has announced the launch of its updated winter-spring onboard menus. The new menus, which offer customers a seasonally inspired Nordic culinary experience, have been offered on flights leaving from Helsinki since January 28, 2026, and will be available until May 19, 2026.
Honouring Finnish Cooking Customs
The country’s long-standing food preservation traditions are reflected in the redesigned menus, which are inspired by Finland’s culinary legacy. The difficulties of the colder seasons have historically influenced Finnish cooking, which has depended on methods like pickling, fermenting, and curing to preserve flavour and freshness. Nordic gastronomy is known for its depth and balance, which can be seen in dishes like cold-smoked salmon preparations, pickled red onion accompaniments, and gravlax seasoned with orange and anise.
Seasonal Flavours Are the Main Event
The prevalence of blackcurrant, a fruit closely linked to Nordic cuisine, is one of the menu’s defining characteristics. Blackcurrant has been carefully incorporated into the savoury and dessert selections in long-haul Business Class cabins. In order to create a consistent seasonal narrative across courses, the flavour can be found in dishes like blackcurrant gelée with gravlax, blackcurrant sauce with slow-cooked lamb shoulder, and desserts like blackcurrant posset.
High-end Business Class Dining
Long-haul travellers may anticipate a multi-course meal service in Business Class that takes into account route dynamics and seasonality. The menus offer a blend of regionally inspired and Nordic-inspired foods, guaranteeing diversity and appeal for tourists from other countries. The meal service has been designed to offer a lighter dining choice early in the flight and a more substantial brunch-style offering later on some long-haul itineraries with late-night departures. Main courses include dishes like slow-cooked lamb shoulder and salmon seasoned with fennel, while appetisers include sophisticated options like lobster tartare and gravlax. Indulgent desserts like chocolate brownies or masterpieces made with blackcurrant round off the experience, highlighting Finnair’s commitment to provide a restaurant-quality eating experience in the air.
More Adaptability for Passengers
The upgraded dining program is also available in Premium Economy and Economy Class cabins, where passengers’ preferences, comfort, and flavour are the main emphasis of menu revisions. In addition to lighter lunch alternatives like herb omelettes, premium economy passengers can savour delicacies like grilled chicken fillet with tomato yoghurt sauce, lentil rice, green beans, and onions. Passengers can choose their meals in advance in all classes, guaranteeing a more customised in-flight experience.
Experience with Curated Drinks
Finnair’s revised Business Class beverage menus go well with the seasonal cuisines. In keeping with the airline’s Nordic identity, the wine program offers a carefully chosen selection of European labels in addition to a unique Finnish dessert wine.
By incorporating culinary narrative into its wider onboard offering, Finnair is reaffirming its dedication to improving the entire travel experience with this menu update. Indian passengers can easily enjoy Finnair’s developing onboard dining experience as part of their trip to Northern Europe and beyond thanks to the airline’s direct flights between Helsinki and Delhi.
