Indian airlines reroute and cancel flights amid Iran airspace closure.
Following the closing of Iranian airspace amid growing regional tensions, Indian airlines have issued advisories warning of delays, rerouting, and flight cancellations. This has had a substantial impact on international operations across critical routes.
Amid escalating tensions, India urges its citizens to depart Iran Air India announced that many planes overflying the region are being redirected utilising alternate routes to guarantee passenger safety due to the developing situation in Iran and the ensuing shutdown of its airspace.
According to the airline, some services where rerouting is not practical have been cancelled, and the updated routes may cause delays. Air India advised customers to check flight status on its website prior to departing for the airport, stating that “the safety of our passengers and crew remains our top priority.”
Additionally, IndiGo said that the abrupt airspace shutdown has impacted several of its overseas flights. According to the airline, its teams are actively evaluating the circumstances and providing flexible rebooking options or refunds to affected clients.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused to travel arrangements, but this development is out of our control,” IndiGo stated, adding that it is still dedicated to informing customers as events unfold.
In a similar warning, SpiceJet said that the airspace restrictions would affect some of its flights. The airline has advised travellers to check flight status online or call its reservation helpline, which is open around the clock, for assistance.
In light of ongoing regional delays, airlines said they are keeping a close eye on events and would make additional operational adjustments as needed. They also advised travellers to keep an eye out for schedule changes and make flexible travel plans.
