The US embassy in India warns holders of B1 and B2 visas.
Advised visitors using a B1/B2 visa to the US to be fully aware of the activities that are permitted and those that are not. B1 and B2 visa holders have received a warning from the US Embassy in India that if they overstay their visas or use them for prohibited purposes, they may be permanently barred from entering the country in the future.
On Thursday, the embassy posted an animated film explaining visiting visa requirements on X, emphasising that visa holders are personally accountable for following the standards.
According to the embassy, consular officials have the authority to deny a visa application if they think the applicant would not adhere to the requirements of a guest visa. This advise comes after a previous warning that breaking US laws or being arrested can have serious repercussions, especially for international students, such as deportation, termination of their visa, and limitations on their ability to get future US visas. The US visa is a privilege, not a right, the embassy emphasised.
The Institute of International Education (IIE) reports that fresh international student applications to US colleges and universities have significantly decreased, with enrolments falling by 17% this autumn. Based on a poll of 825 universities across the country, the results reveal a range of trends: 29% said that the number of new international students had increased, 14% said that it had not, and 57% said that it had decreased. Of the institutions that saw a drop, 68% blamed the dip on travel restrictions put in place under the Trump administration, and 96% cited visa-related issues as the main cause.
Due to lengthy wait periods for visa appointments or brief stops in the visa processing procedure earlier this year, a number of universities complained that prospective students experienced protracted delays. Indian students, who make up the majority of international students in the US, have seen a sharp decline in new enrolments, according to numerous universities.
