Delhi government to set up a special PMU to Boost Tourism Growth.

To increase tourism in the nation’s capital, the Delhi government has chosen to create a special Project Management Unit (PMU), authorities announced on Saturday. Across all tourism-related activities, the PMU will assist with policy creation, infrastructure development, branding, investment promotion, project implementation, monitoring, and interdepartmental coordination.
The Delhi Tourism and Transport Development Corporation (DTTDC) has launched a tender to select a consulting firm to set up and run the PMU on behalf of the Delhi government as part of this action.
According to DTTDC, the engagement will last for three years initially, with the possibility of an extension of up to two years based on performance and the corporation’s judgement. With GST excluded, the initiative is expected to cost Rs 2 crore annually, or roughly Rs 6 crore over the first three years. In the areas of tourist marketing, infrastructure development, visitor experience, events, hospitality facilitation, and investment processes, the PMU will help write, update, and improve policies, guidelines, standard operating procedures, rules, and schemes.
Additionally, it will assist in creating operational rules, documentation standards, and implementation frameworks for grants, events, infrastructure projects, and tourism programs. In addition to recommending appropriate fiscal and non-fiscal measures for Delhi, the DTTDC stated that the unit will benchmark tourism policies, investment incentives, public space activation models, branding frameworks, and tourist service models followed by other states and nations.
For a variety of tourism interventions, the PMU will also assist in the preparation of concept notes, detailed project reports (DPRs), cost estimates, tender documents, and project monitoring systems. These include MICE and medical tourism, cruise and water-based tourism, city tours, festivals, heritage and experiential tourism, digital efforts, tourism circuits, concert economy initiatives, sponsorship and support policy frameworks, and cruise and water-based tourism.
In order to promote investments in tourism and associated industries, such as hotels, convention centres, event venues, experience centres, tourism transportation services, entertainment zones, food and retail hubs, and heritage activation projects, the PMU will actively interact with potential investors, industry associations, and hospitality stakeholders. Investors will benefit from quicker project grounding, policy evaluation, interdepartmental approvals, and proposal preparation.
In order to facilitate clearances for tourism projects, the unit will coordinate with various departments and agencies of the Delhi government, such as district administrations, the Delhi Development Authority, the Archaeological Survey of India, the Delhi Police, the Delhi Metro, urban development authorities, municipal bodies, and the transport and public works departments.
According to DTTDC, the PMU will also analyse the gaps in tourism infrastructure, find new projects, create funding and execution plans, standardise design and visitor experience standards, and assist projects from conception to commissioning. It will also offer transaction consulting and procurement services, including help for concession, licensing, and public-private partnerships. The scope also include IT and digital efforts, branding, media, and marketing support for Delhi Tourism, and the development of integrated dashboards for tracking tourism projects and programs. Through organised planning, implementation, and oversight of tourism projects, the effort seeks to improve departmental cooperation, bolster institutional capacity, and improve Delhi’s overall visitor experience, according to DTTDC.
