As it continues to expand its reach into lesser-known locations in the Eastern Himalayas, Summit Hotels & Resorts has inked a 24-key resort in Samthar, a growing mountain destination in West Bengal. The company’s recently launched Offbeat portfolio, which focuses on locations outside of well-known tourist circuits, will include Summit Samthar.  The Offbeat Collection, which is slated to debut in October–November 2026.

In addition to an in-house restaurant, a private lawn, a tea garden, a children’s play area, shared sitting places, and large outdoor spaces, the new resort will feature 24 Kanchenjunga-facing rooms with private balconies.

Sumit Mitruka, founder and CEO of Summit Hotels & Resorts, stated, “Samthar is precisely the kind of place that we think has a lot of potential for the next stage of leisure tourism in the area. Our experience in the Eastern Himalayas has demonstrated that the influence of hospitality extends beyond the hotel itself when it reaches a lesser-known location. It increases demand for transport and other services, provides jobs locally, and enables us to purchase produce and other necessities from nearby stores and vendors. This has been observed at establishments like Summit Enigma Resort & Spa in Lamahata, Summit Tashi Ghang Heritage Resort in Pelling, and Summit Bougainvillaea Tea Resort in Tindharia. Our goal in Samthar is to become a part of the local economy while introducing more travellers to the destination without taking away the character that makes it worth discovering.”

The agreement also advances Summit’s plan to reach smaller locations throughout the Eastern Himalayas in addition to well-known tourist hubs. Destination development has been identified by the corporation as a crucial component of its Offbeat Collection, and hospitality investment is anticipated to boost local jobs, tourism services, and longer visitor stays in these areas.

Summit anticipates that the new property will help promote Samthar to a broader leisure audience and encourage tourists to expand their North Bengal itineraries to include lesser-known areas in the area. The expansion coincides with Summit Hotels & Resorts expanding its portfolio through three unique offerings: Offbeat, Signature, and Mandir, which include spiritual tourism, premium destination hospitality, and rising destinations, respectively.
