Campbell Wilson and Robert McDonald join Air New Zealand’s board.

Air New Zealand has made the announcement that it will be appointing Campbell Wilson, a former managing director of Air India, and Robert McDonald, a former chief financial officer, to serve as directors on its board of directors, beginning September 24, when the company will conduct its annual shareholders’ meeting.

The appointments are being made at a time when the airline, which is the national carrier of New Zealand, is dealing with delayed aircraft deliveries, ongoing engine difficulties, and increased fuel prices as a result of the crisis in the Middle East.

Wilson brings with him more than three decades of experience in the aviation industry. At the beginning of April, he made the decision to step down from his position as the chief executive officer of Air India, which he had held for almost four years. This decision was made in the face of ongoing losses and increased regulatory scrutiny, which had arisen as a result of a crash that occurred in the previous year, which resulted in the deaths of 260 individuals.

Wilson was also the founding chief executive of Scoot, which is the low-cost business of Singapore Airlines during his tenure. During his extensive employment at Singapore Airlines, he played a significant role in shaping the culture of Scoot, which was characterised by its informality and irreverence. This culture was a part of a larger, more traditional organization that was known for its emphasis on the premium market.

While this is going on, McDonald is now serving as the chair of Contact Energy and as a director at FleetPartners International. Having experience in both finance and governance will be beneficial to the airline.
