MSC Purchases Two Options and Four Cruise Ships at Meyer Werft.

In celebration of the debut of its “New Frontier” platform, MSC Cruises today announced a fresh order for four next-generation cruise ships and two more options from Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany.

Beginning in 2030, the “New Frontier” ships, which have a maximum passenger capacity of 5,400 and weigh 180,000 tonnes, will be delivered yearly. Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Katherina Reiche, Energy Minister-President Lower Saxony Olaf Lies, Executive Chairman Pierfrancesco Vago of MSC Cruises, and Dr Bernd Eikens, CEO of Meyer Werft, made the announcement today in the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy in Berlin.

The order will create thousands of jobs in Germany, especially in Lower Saxony and Papenburg, where Meyer Werft is a major employer and maintains employment for the shipyard’s wide network of suppliers.” Meyer Werft directly employs around 3,200 people, and its operations support over 20,000 jobs in the surrounding area.

The arrangement guarantees continuity for one of Europe’s most sophisticated maritime manufacturing ecosystems and strengthens Papenburg’s position as a critical base for global cruise shipbuilding, with delivery dates extending into the 2030s.
