Antarctica21 and HIF Global Renew Their E-Fuel Partnership.
By increasing the use of locally produced e-gasoline to power Zodiac landing operations and showcasing a path to lower-emission exploration in Antarctica, Antarctica21 has announced the renewal of its strategic partnership with HIF Global. “This renewed partnership demonstrates ambition and continuity. According to Victor Turpaud, CEO of HIF Latam, “our e-fuels today represent a real solution to decarbonise hard to abate sectors.” “We can once again show that regional tourism can be a catalyst for green innovation globally by supporting Antarctica21,” Turpaud continued. “By incorporating e-fuels into our operations for a second consecutive season, we reaffirm our responsibility to protect one of the planet’s most fragile ecosystems and to drive a real technological transformation within the maritime and tourism industries, rooted in Chile and reaching the world,” stated Vervé Peragallo, CEO of Antarctica21.
The project reinforces Antarctica21’s dedication to sustainability, technological innovation, and the preservation of the Antarctic ecosystem, the organisation said in a press release. According to the agreement, the fleet of ten Zodiac boats that carry passengers from the Magellan Explorer to Antarctic coastlines will keep using locally made synthetic petrol, or ‘e-gasoline’, at HIF’s Haru Oni factory in Punta Arenas. The press release states that Antarctica21 is the first and only Antarctic tourism firm to run e-fuel powered excursion boats thanks to this partnership, which represents a significant advancement in the use of synthetic fuels in the polar tourism sector.
Without requiring any changes to the boats’ current engines, this fuel, which is made from green hydrogen and recovered CO₂, dramatically lowers the carbon footprint of landing operations on the White Continent, the business stated. According to Antarctica21, it is also considering using synthetic aviation fuel (e-SAF) for the ship’s flight operations and synthetic marine diesel (e-MGO) to power the ship’s main engines. Visitors will learn about e-fuels and their revolutionary potential while seeing the White Continent. HIF and Antarctica21 want to communicate that the trip actively supports future energy solutions while exploring Antarctica with the least amount of effect.
