AWA & Etihad Partner to Connect West Africa–UAE.
The Memorandum of Understanding strengthens Etihad‘s position in West Africa by addressing interline, codeshare, and loyalty partnerships.
A Memorandum of Understanding has been inked by Etihad Airways and Africa World Airlines to create a strategic alliance that will include frequent flyer programs, codeshare, and interline collaboration.
A framework for connecting the two airlines’ networks is outlined in the agreement, which was inked in Accra. After it is put into place, Etihad customers will be able to travel on a single ticket from Accra to Ghana and West Africa, as well as to Abu Dhabi and beyond via Etihad’s network of 118 destinations.
The collaboration extends beyond the passenger networks of the airlines. The two airlines plan to work together on loyalty, offering participants in their programs additional opportunities to accrue points and redeem them.
Travel between Accra and the UAE is increasing along with trade, investment, and government involvement between Ghana and the UAE. The next logical step is to establish a direct commercial connection between these aviation markets’ two capital cities.
The many areas of cooperation will be implemented gradually, with the Memorandum of Understanding going into effect on July 24, 2026. The collaboration sets the stage for the commencement of Etihad’s own Abu Dhabi–Accra service on March 24, 2027. As soon as the interline cooperation is implemented, combined trips will be available for purchase.
