In December, Asiana Airlines will leave Star Alliance.
On December 16, 2026, at 23:59 Korea Standard Time, Asiana Airlines will formally leave Star Alliance, ending its membership in the international airline alliance for more than 20 years.
Since joining Star Alliance in 2003, the carrier with its headquarters in Seoul has been instrumental in growing the alliance’s network and improving connectivity throughout Asia. Star Alliance announced the change and expressed gratitude to Asiana Airlines and its staff for helping to provide smooth travel experiences for clients all around the world.
Prior to Asiana Airlines’ exit from the alliance, Star Alliance stated that it will collaborate closely with the airline to guarantee a seamless transition for travellers.
On flights operated by Asiana Airlines that depart on or before October 15, 2026, passengers enrolled in any Star Alliance member airline’s frequent flyer program will continue to accrue miles. Subject to the rules and limitations of their own frequent flyer programs, members will also be eligible to exchange points for Star Alliance award tickets and upgrades on Asiana Airlines for travel completed on or before December 16, 2026.
Up to December 16, 2026, Star Alliance Gold and Silver members will still be eligible for priority check-in, boarding, and baggage services when using Asiana Airlines. When travelling throughout the alliance network, Gold members will also continue to have access to qualified Asiana Airlines lounges and other Star Alliance lounges.
Incheon International Airport will continue to be served by 14 Star Alliance member airlines after Asiana Airlines departs. Air Canada, Air China, Air India, Air New Zealand, EVA Air, Ethiopian Airlines, Lufthansa, LOT Polish Airlines, SWISS, Singapore Airlines, Shenzhen Airlines, Thai Airways, Turkish Airlines, and United Airlines are among them.
Together, these airlines currently run over 1,900 direct flights every month from Incheon International Airport to 29 locations across the globe, guaranteeing ongoing connectivity via the Star Alliance network.
With 25 member airlines as of December 17, 2026, Star Alliance will maintain its emphasis on offering passengers seamless multi-airline travel and worldwide connectivity.
