South Korea launches Korail Pass Plus, combining KTX, buses and subways.
Korail Pass Plus, a new all in one transportation card created specifically for foreign visitors to South Korea, has been unveiled by the Korea Railroad Corp (Korail). The product allows for easy travel across the nation by high speed rail, subways and buses by combining the advantages of the current KORAIL PASS with a prepaid, rechargeable transit card.
Korail Pass Plus, which was created to improve travel convenience from airport arrival to the destination, enables foreign tourists to utilise a single physical card for both regular public transit and long distance rail travel. The new pass combines train access with local transportation capability, making travel across the nation easier than with the old KORAIL PASS, which requires printed or mobile tickets. Travellers who purchase a KORAIL PASS, which permits unlimited train travel for two to five consecutive days at set rates, can also purchase a Korail Pass Plus. The mass transit card feature, which can be recharged and used on buses and subways across the country as well as for payments at specific offline retailers including convenience stores, is available to users for an extra KRW 8,000. The KORAIL PASS is available to foreign visitors at train stations or on Korail’s official website.
Users must first register their pass number on the Korail Pass Plus website in order to activate the transit card service. They can then pick up the card in person from authorised kiosks at key KTX stations, including as Incheon International Airport, Seoul, Busan, Dongdaegu, and Daejeon. Korail claims that the new pass is intended to provide a more seamless end to end travel experience while lessening the hassle of juggling several tickets and cards. Additionally, the physical card functions as a memento, giving passengers a concrete reminder of their rail experience long after their trip is over. The Korean Taegeuk motif served as the inspiration for Korail Pass Plus’s design, which represents the nation’s rail history and cultural character. In addition to its practical use, the card is marketed as a memento of the tourist’s trip in South Korea.
