Under certain circumstances, some foreign nationals, including Indians, can currently enter Phu Quoc without a visa. However, the exemption does not allow access into mainland Vietnam and is exclusively restricted to travel within Phu Quoc Island.

Authorities have stated that travellers may have to go to mainland cities like Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi in circumstances like medical emergency or aircraft delays. Indian nationals without a valid Vietnam visa may encounter difficulties in certain situations, such as travel limitations, delays in receiving medical care, and immigration-related issues.

Therefore, even if their itinerary only includes Phu Quoc Island, travellers are encouraged to secure an appropriate Vietnam visa before departing. Travellers without a visa should be mindful of possible issues in the event that they must visit mainland Vietnam due to unanticipated circumstances.

Incidents involving Indian passport loss in Vietnam are also covered by the warning. The Indian Embassy in Hanoi or the Indian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City must receive the police complaint that passengers must promptly file in the appropriate jurisdiction.

Emergency travel documents are typically provided on the same day of application, according to the authorities. However, it could take three to five working days, and often more, to receive an exit permit from Vietnamese officials. Travellers must stay in Vietnam during this time until their exit permit is approved.
