Naha Port Expands Cruise Tourism.

Okinawa, Japan: Construction has officially begun on a new cruise terminal at Naha Port in Okinawa, marking a major step in Japan’s efforts to strengthen cruise tourism and expand its position as a key gateway to East Asia.
The Naha Port Authority, Cruise Port Naha G.K., Royal Caribbean Group and MSC Cruises have joined hands for the development of the new purpose-built terminal. A ground breaking ceremony was held at the future terminal site, formally marking the start of construction.
The terminal is being developed and operated by Cruise Port Naha G.K., a joint venture between CTL Maritime and RCL Cruises Ltd., representing the interests of MSC Cruises and Royal Caribbean Group. The facility is expected to feature modern passenger amenities aimed at improving the overall guest experience and increasing operational efficiency.
The new infrastructure will also enhance Naha Port’s capacity to accommodate larger and more advanced cruise ships as demand for cruise travel across Asia continues to grow. With its strategic location and year-round accessibility, Naha serves as an important gateway for cruise itineraries connecting Japan with destinations across East Asia.
The project is targeted for completion and commencement of operations in March 2028. It is expected to contribute to the long-term development of tourism in Okinawa, strengthen regional connectivity and create new opportunities for international and Asian cruise travellers.
The development also highlights growing collaboration between major global cruise companies and local authorities to invest in cruise infrastructure and support the future expansion of the Asian cruise market.
