And BeyondEvents

The Hong Kong Tourism Board highlights the potential for massive events.

The “Hong Kong Mega 8” campaign was launched by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB). The campaign invites tourists from all over the world to Hong Kong to experience the thriving arts scenes in local neighbourhoods and discover Hong Kong’s alluring allure as the “Events Capital of Asia.” It includes eight highlighted world-class mega events of pop culture, sports, and the arts as well as citywide programs.

HKTB Chairman Dr. Peter Lam stated, “To fully showcase Hong Kong’s strengths as the ‘Events Capital of Asia,’ HKTB has brought together highlighted art and sports mega events and citywide programs through the ‘Hong Kong Mega 8’ campaign. HKTB and Art Basel are collaborating for the first time to introduce digital art to nearby communities. We are grateful to Hongkong Land for its unwavering support, which enables us to introduce top-notch public art to Central. In order to introduce and market the city’s varied travel experiences, we will also collaborate with our trade partners in a number of industries.” By improving the visitor experience, enticing them to stay longer in Hong Kong, and generating more commercial opportunities for the local travel industry and associated sectors, we hope to maximise the economic benefits of major events.

A number of international artistic and cultural events will be held throughout the city as part of the “Hong Kong Mega 8” campaign. Ahead of the fair’s inauguration, HKTB and Art Basel will introduce Digital Art @Central, providing an artistic atmosphere to the district and extending digital art experiences beyond the show floor. DeePle the People, DeeKay’s latest digital animation piece, will introduce digital art from the fair into Central’s urban environment.

According to DeeKay, he was excited to work with the HKTB and especially values showcasing digital art in a public setting since it makes the piece accessible to a wider range of viewers. “I wanted to show the city as a living, moving place shaped by its people, its rhythm, and its cultural vibrancy, going beyond the skyline and landmarks.”

In the meantime, the digital “Hong Kong Art Month Discovery Guide” was introduced by HKTB in partnership with Art Central. In order to help visitors plan their cultural journeys and explore arts events in various parts of the city, the guide offers comprehensive travel information and compiles exciting events across the city’s art districts, including gallery exhibitions, special museum showcases, and performing arts programs across Central, Sheung Wan, Wan Chai, Tai Hang, the Southern District, Tsim Sha Tsui, and the West Kowloon Cultural District. It also includes dining recommendations in the area.

During this time, Hong Kong’s numerous districts will exhibit artistic vibrancy in addition to the big art events.
