Air India Plans Hub-and-Spoke Model to Boost International Connectivity from Varanasi.
In keeping with the Government of India’s drive to operationalise the hub-and-spoke aviation model, Air India is getting ready to introduce international connectivity from Varanasi as part of its network expansion strategy.
Campbell Wilson, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Air India stated “This is a transformative step for Indian aviation. We express our gratitude to the Hon’ble Prime Minister for his vision to enhance the whole aviation ecosystem and establish India as a global aviation center. In addition to improving connectivity, the hub-and-spoke concept will guarantee the best possible use of the nation’s built airport infrastructure. We are grateful to the Minister of Civil Aviation for supporting the Hub and Spoke model as a whole, which will have a powerful multiplier effect and serve as a catalyst for India’s overall development.”
As part of the deployment, Air India hopes to improve travellers from Varanasi and the surrounding areas’ access to the world, especially for those from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.
P Balaji, Group Head for Governance, Risk, Compliance, and Corporate Affairs at Air India stated, “The introduction of international hub-and-spoke connectivity from Varanasi underscores our focus on expanding India’s global aviation footprint beyond metros. By reducing travel time and making travel easy and convenient, it will greatly benefit foreign visitors from India’s Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.”
By enabling improved aircraft utilisation and reducing traffic at large airports through distributed passenger processing, the hub-and-spoke model is anticipated to represent a structural change in India’s aviation landscape.
