Singapore Airlines & Air China Plan Joint Venture.

An important step toward improving air connectivity between Singapore and China has been taken with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Air China and Singapore Airlines (SIA) to create a commercial joint venture agreement.
As part of the collaboration, the two members of the Star Alliance intend to extend their current codeshare arrangement to more locations within China, between Singapore and mainland China, and outside of both nations. The airlines also plan to coordinate flight schedules, launch combined fare packages, and pursue joint marketing and revenue-sharing efforts, subject to regulatory permissions.
Additionally, the deal calls for increased cooperation between Singapore Airlines’ KrisFlyer frequent flyer program and Air China’s PhoenixMiles, giving members greater chances to accrue and use miles on both airlines.
Additionally, by exchanging best practices, the airlines will investigate collaboration in operational domains such as ground handling, catering, and in-flight amenities.
Qu Guangji, President of Air China stated, “As members of Star Alliance, Singapore Airlines and Air China enjoy a solid foundation of long-standing cooperation. We will intensify our joint venture projects, expand the scope of codeshare agreements, improve frequent flyer program synergies, and strengthen our bilateral collaboration. We will continue to provide passengers flying on China-Singapore air routes with more travel options and more convenience by continuously providing premium services and a variety of travel packages.”
Goh Choon Phong, CEO of Singapore Airlines stated, “Singapore Airlines is pleased to embark on this strategic partnership with Air China, which has an extensive domestic and international network from its hubs in China. When it comes to flights between Singapore and China as well as throughout our combined networks, we will provide consumers with more travel alternatives, smooth connections, and improved convenience. Increased value for our clients and a better travel experience will result from closer collaboration on services and frequent flyer programs. Along with promoting deeper linkages and shared opportunities between Singapore and China, our collaboration will improve economic and people-to-people ties by supporting the expansion of tourism, business, and cultural exchanges.”
