Air India to launch nonstop Delhi–Hanoi and Mumbai–Tokyo Haneda flights.

As part of its ongoing network expansion throughout Asia, Air India has announced the opening of two new international routes. The airline plans to launch nonstop service between Mumbai and Tokyo (Haneda) on June 15, 2026, and between Delhi and Hanoi on May 1, 2026.
After Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi is now Air India’s second gateway in Vietnam thanks to the new service. Airbus A320neo aircraft with Business Class, Premium Economy, and Economy Class cabins will fly the Delhi–Hanoi route five times a week. Between Vietnam and India, the new route will add almost 7,000 seats every month.
Travellers will also be able to arrange flexible open-jaw itineraries in Vietnam with the addition of this service, which will allow them to enter through Hanoi and depart from Ho Chi Minh City, or the other way around. Convenient onwards connections via Air India’s local and international network, including flights to the UK and other European locations, will be available on flights on this route.
Air India will begin operating four weekly nonstop flights using Boeing 787-8 aircraft between Mumbai and Tokyo Haneda Airport, further enhancing connection with Japan. The airline’s current Delhi–Tokyo (Haneda) route will be enhanced with the new service.
Air India has offered enhanced cabin goods on Boeing 787-9 aircraft, including Premium Economy for the first time in the industry, and boosted frequency on the Delhi–Tokyo route from four weekly flights to seven weekly flights. Improved onboard amenities like Wi-Fi connectivity, updated meal options, and contemporary in-flight entertainment systems will be advantageous to passengers visiting Japan.
Passengers arriving in Tokyo Haneda on Air India will have access to further connections to six major Japanese cities, including Fukuoka, Hiroshima, Nagoya, Okinawa, Osaka, and Sapporo, thanks to the airline’s codeshare agreement with All Nippon Airways.
“Since Air India’s privatisation, we have significantly grown our network across Southeast Asia and the Far East, having added several new routes, optimised flight schedules to enable convenient cross-continent connections, forged new partnerships with other carriers, and deploying upgraded cabin products progressively,” stated Nipun Aggarwal, Chief Commercial Officer.
“As India’s economic and commercial ties with both countries continue to deepen and present more opportunities for business and trade on both sides,” he continued, “Japan and Vietnam have both emerged as fast-growing destinations for Indian travellers. Our footprint in the area is strengthened and this growth is supported by the opening of these additional routes.”
Over 315,000 Indian tourists travelled to Japan in 2025, up 35% from 2024 and over 80% from pre-pandemic levels, according to the Japan National Tourism Organization.
In the meantime, Vietnam’s tourism industry is still expanding rapidly; in 2025, it will have over 20 million foreign visitors and rank among the most popular travel destinations in Southeast Asia.
