Terminal 2 at Velana International Airport in the Maldives is made operational for domestic flights.

A major milestone in the airport’s continuous infrastructure development has been reached with the formal opening of Terminal 2 at Velana International Airport (VIA) by Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), which will now handle all domestic departures and arrivals.

Along with Cabinet Ministers, members of the Executive Committee, the MACL Board, senior management, and employees who were instrumental in easing the transition of domestic operations to the new terminal, Maldivian Vice President Uz. Hussain Mohamed Latheef attended the inauguration ceremony.

In order to facilitate travel, increase passenger convenience, and meet the growing demand for inter-island connectivity throughout the Maldives, a dedicated domestic terminal has been established. A number of passenger-focused amenities are available at Terminal 2, such as a special children’s play area, more food and beverage options at the boarding area featuring Gloria Jean’s, Dairy Queen, and Costa Coffee, and recently constructed prayer rooms intended to provide inclusive amenities for passengers.

VIA hopes to improve passenger flow management and provide a more orderly and effective domestic travel experience with the operationalization of Terminal 2. It is recommended that passengers on domestic flights go straight to Terminal 2 and check their flight information with their individual airlines before departing.
