Volotea and ITA Airways Sign Bilateral Codeshare to Boost Connectivity.

ITA Airways and Volotea, the airline that connects small and medium-sized European cities, have announced the start of their bilateral codeshare agreement, which will take effect on April 15, 2026. This represents a new phase in the two businesses’ strategic alliance, which aims to improve ties between Europe and Italy.

With up to 104 possible origin and destination combinations (O&D), the two airlines will significantly increase travel options and provide travellers with a vast integrated network. Based on Volotea’s existing network to Rome Fiumicino and ITA Airways’ network at the Roman hub, the arrangement greatly increases the number of connections between various European destinations.

The partnership will specifically improve connectivity via Rome Fiumicino to Italian and European destinations in ITA Airways’ network, including Milan Linate, Catania, Palermo, Brindisi, Trieste, Genoa, Reggio Calabria, Frankfurt, Paris, London, Zurich, Tirana, and Amsterdam, once the technical implementation is finished. Additionally, it will provide new Volotea-operated itineraries to locations like Murcia, Asturias, and Vitoria via the hubs of Madrid and Barcelona. Simultaneously, the deal increases Volotea’s commercial visibility in new European markets and permits ITA Airways to broaden its service by adding routes that the low-cost carrier’s network serves. Cities like Asturias, Bilbao, Bordeaux, Lourdes/Tarbes, Nantes, and Strasbourg are among them, and there are other connections via Spain.
