Early 2027 opening of Kempinski Augustine Hotel, Prague.

Kempinski is preparing to open Kempinski Augustine Hotel, Prague, in early 2027, following an extensive transformation of the historic property in the Czech capital’s Malá Strana district. Located within the 13th-century Augustinian Monastery of St. Thomas, the hotel spans seven historic buildings with a heritage of more than 800 years.
Acquired by Kempinski earlier in 2026, the property is being repositioned to blend its monastic heritage with contemporary luxury hospitality. The transformation is guided by the concept of ‘lived duality’, balancing historic architecture and cultural identity with modern design and personalised guest experiences.
Rasha Lababidi, Chief Product, Experience and Communications Officer, Kempinski Group, said the hotel would reflect the future of experiential travel, combining individualised experiences and local connections with rich history and evolving hospitality concepts.
LDS Design Studio is leading the redesign, drawing inspiration from St. Augustine and Prague’s Gothic, Baroque and Bohemian influences. Original architectural features, including vaulted ceilings and exposed wooden beams, will be preserved and integrated into contemporary interiors.
The hotel will feature 101 guest rooms, including 20 suites, with bespoke canopy beds, tapestries, residential-style bathrooms and design elements inspired by Prague’s architecture and gardens. Signature suites will celebrate the city’s cultural and intellectual heritage, including a Presidential Suite inspired by former Czech president Václav Havel. The Monastery, Philosopher’s Stone, Charles and Fresco suites will each feature distinctive design concepts. A three-level Tower Suite inspired by astronomer Johannes Kepler is planned for a subsequent development phase.
Public areas will follow Kempinski’s ‘living room of the city’ concept, welcoming both hotel guests and Prague residents. Features will include a residential-style bar, informal gathering spaces, a Collector’s Table showcasing Czech artisans and a ‘Living City Ceiling’ developed in collaboration with a local artist.
Food and beverage concepts are being developed with Gorgeous Group and Russell Sage Studio. A neighbourhood-style dining room will offer all-day dining, brasserie service, semi-private spaces and a courtyard, featuring locally influenced dishes and a changing wine selection.
The historic Refectory will be transformed into a bar inspired by George Ripley’s 12 alchemical steps. Its cocktail menu will feature seasonal botanicals, infusions, local craft absinthes and St. Thomas dark lager. A daily ‘Transformation Hour’ at sunset will mark the transition into the evening programme.
The hotel will also introduce Kempinski’s E.R.A.s (Experience Real Access) programme, connecting guests with local artists, craftspeople and cultural communities through curated experiences.
The reopening will mark a new chapter for the historic property, preserving its architectural character while introducing contemporary accommodation, dining and culturally immersive experiences.
