IHCL signs a Taj hotel in Weligama and increases its footprint in Sri Lanka.
The largest hospitality firm in India, Indian Hotels firm Limited (IHCL), has announced that it has signed a contract to build a Taj hotel in Weligama, extending its presence in Sri Lanka. There will be 220 keys in the greenfield development, including 80 opulent apartments.
Puneet Chhatwal, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of IHCL, commented on the agreement, saying, “With the growth of surfing, wellness, and nature-led travel, Weligama is becoming one of Sri Lanka’s most popular coastal destinations. The Taj brand is more well-known in the area as a result of the country’s tourism industry growing steadily. For this project, we are happy to collaborate with Beryll Group.”
The Taj Weligama will be a beachfront resort with sweeping views of the Indian Ocean, situated in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka. The resort will have a deli, two speciality restaurants, a beach bar and grill, a bar and lounge and an all-day dining restaurant. Additionally, guests will have access to Taj’s famous J Wellness Circle, a modern gym, a swimming pool, an entertainment area, and a children’s playroom. In addition to conference rooms and private gardens, the hotel will have a banquet hall and convention facilities totalling more than 9,000 square feet for meetings, conventions, and social gatherings.

With its crescent-shaped bay, surf-friendly waves, and relaxed coastal atmosphere, Weligama, which is situated along Sri Lanka’s southern coastline, is becoming a more and more popular destination for both domestic and foreign tourists.
