Meliá Hotels International Plans to Expand to 3,000 Rooms in Tunisia.

With intentions to build a portfolio of five properties with a total capacity of 3,000 rooms by 2030, Meliá Hotels International has announced its debut into Tunisia through a strategic partnership with Management Hospitality Group (MHG).
One of the nation’s most popular beachfront locations, Mahdia, will host a 307-room resort under the Meliá Hotels & Resorts brand in 2026, marking the start of the expansion. Four other sites in Tabarka, Monastir, Djerba, and Tunis are planned between 2027 and 2029 as part of the larger development pipeline.
The properties, which are mostly resort-oriented, will function under several brands in the group’s portfolio, such as Gran Meliá, Sol, and Meliá Hotels & Resorts. Repositioning current hotel assets to meet international standards, improve visitor experiences, and boost business performance will be the main focus of the development strategy.
The project will heavily rely on MHG, a joint venture between AllianceOne Group and Voyages 2000, which will provide local market knowledge, operational skills, and distribution power throughout the Mediterranean and North African markets.
Gabriel Escarrer, Chairman and CEO of Meliá Hotels International stated,”Our entry into Tunisia marks a strategic step in Meliá Hotels International’s growth across the Mediterranean and North Africa. We support locations that have a lot of room to grow and where we can apply our knowledge of hotel repositioning. We want to assist the creation of a tourism product with more added value, in line with changing trends in quality, sustainability, and destination diversification, in collaboration with top-tier partners like MHG.”
Currently drawing more than 11 million tourists each year, Tunisia is establishing itself as a varied, high-quality travel destination. It is anticipated that Meliá’s arrival will support the nation’s larger objective of sustainable tourism growth and long-term value generation while also aiding in the development of the hospitality sector.
