Kimpton El Castelar Polanco in Mexico City is unveiled by IHG.

IHG Hotels & Resorts announced the opening of Kimpton El Castelar, a high-end boutique hotel in Emilio Castelar 107 Colonia Polanco, Mexico, as part of their luxury and leisure portfolio. The 34-room hotel revitalises the Roel Building, which was created by Mexican Art Nouveau architect Francisco J. Serrano and was opened in 1940.

The hotel has several private outdoor terraces, a rooftop pool, Kimpton Kickstart, which offers free coffee and premium teas during the day, and Kimpton Social Hour, which offers free wine and beer at night. Other features include free bikes that guests can ride around town, yoga mats in each room, and pet-friendly accommodations.

Kimpton Castelar’s general manager, Alejandro Gallegos, stated: “Kimpton Castelar is an authentic addition to the spirit of Mexico City. Our goal is for visitors to use the hotel as their home base while exploring the trendy Polanquito neighborhood’s hidden gems.”

“As Kimpton hotels continue to grow in our Mexico and Latin American region, we carry a true sense of excitement with us; our goal with each of our hotel openings is to thoughtfully integrate into the community, and I’m confident Kimpton El Castelar will be loved locally and inspire enchantment for travellers across the world,” stated Leanne Harwood, SVP Managing Director of Luxury and Lifestyle at IHG Hotels & Resorts.

Kimpton El Castelar joins its sibling hotel, Kimpton Virgilio, which opened in 2024 in Polanco, Mexico City, as part of Kimpton’s ongoing expansion in the MLAC region. Both properties now occupy historically significant apartment buildings in the area. These two establishments add to Kimpton’s portfolio of 87 hotels that are open all over the world. In its expanding pipeline of assets and destinations, the company also has 67 hotels.
