And Beyond

Tourism Western Australia unveils a new phase of its “Walking On A Dream” global campaign.

In celebration of the state’s remarkable landscapes, lively culture, and creative genius, tourist Western Australia has unveiled the second edition of its immersive global tourist brand campaign, “Walking On A Dream.”

The ad portrays Washington as a location where coral reefs glisten in turquoise oceans, vast deserts glow under boundless skies, and historic landscapes tell millennia-old tales.

With five 30-second destination vignettes and a 60-second feature, the cinematic series vividly captures the surreal atmosphere of Western Australia. It was shot in prominent sites such as Ningaloo Reef, Margaret River, Rottnest Island, Perth, and the ancient beauty of Mirima National Park in the Kimberley.

At its core is the reworking of Empire of the Sun’s popular song “Walking On A Dream,” which was directed by Luke Steele, a WA native, and featured performances by Billy-Jo Shoveller, an Aboriginal musician with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO) and a Karajarri man.

“Awe and escape have always been central to Walking On A Dream. It seemed like WA itself, wonderful and otherworldly”, to work with Billy-Jo and WASO to produce this new version, Steele added.

According to Billy-Jo Shoveller, the partnership was extremely personal and embodies his desire to spread the spirit of the Kimberley to as many people as possible.

“I’m proud to be a part of this campaign as a Karajarri man,” he stated, adding that collaborating with Luke Steele on “Walking On A Dream” allowed him to incorporate some of his culture and ties to his homeland into the project. It feels fantastic to contribute to demonstrating to everyone that Washington is a unique location.

Nelson Baker, a Nyikina man, and Angelica Blazeska, a budding performer and graduate of the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, are featured in the advertisement. The films, which were created in collaboration with Traditional Owners and the Aboriginal tourism industry in Western Australia, celebrate strong ties to the land by fusing creativity, culture, and nature.

The campaign, which will begin rolling out in February 2026 in major foreign markets, builds on its initial 2022 launch, which helped Western Australia’s tourism industry recover. Western Australia saw slightly over a million foreign tourists in the year that ended in October 2025, breaking the previous high of 996,000 established in 2019.

Through international marketing efforts, the creation of significant events, and industry cooperation, Tourism Western Australia, the WA government organization in charge of positioning the state as a top vacation and events destination, keeps increasing tourism.
