Air Canada and Abra Group collaborate to increase global reach.

Under the planned strategic alliance, Air Canada and Abra will create a Joint Business Agreement on specific Canada-Latin America routes and strengthen commercial integration through coordinated sales and distribution, subject to the negotiation of final documentation and regulatory approval.
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Air Canada and Abra Group to establish a comprehensive, long-term strategic alliance. Customers and shippers would benefit from improved connectivity throughout North, Central, and South America as well as beyond thanks to the partnership between the airline and the Latin American air transport corporation, whose carriers include the Avianca and GOL brands. Regulatory approval and final documentation are prerequisites for any final agreement.
“Our customers to and from the region have long benefited from existing codeshare partnerships with Abra Group, with Latin America serving as a rapidly expanding and strategic component of Air Canada’s global presence. This Memorandum of Understanding between our world-class airlines creates a pathway to further strengthen our partnership, improve the customer experience, and enhance global connectivity, building on a highly complementary presence across the Americas,” stated Mark Galardo, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer and President of Cargo at Air Canada.
Angus Clarke, Chief Commercial Officer stated , “At Abra Group, we believe in building seamless, integrated networks that bring people, cultures, and economies closer together. Our complementary strengths with Air Canada provide up new possibilities for our clients, partners, and the areas we serve by increasing travel options and fostering greater connectivity around the hemisphere. This is a big step in creating an aviation ecosystem that is more dynamic and accessible.”
“The Canada–South America market is accelerating, and we are investing to capture this momentum, expanding into key markets like Lima, Santiago, and Rio de Janeiro with further growth ahead in Quito while building on our strong foundation with Avianca through Star Alliance and our long-standing collaboration with GOL to shape connectivity across the Americas and unlock greater value for our customers,” stated Mary-Jane Lorette, Vice President, Revenue Management, Partnerships, and International
In accordance with the proposed strategic partnership, which is contingent upon the negotiation of final documentation and regulatory approval, Air Canada and Abra would: deepen commercial integration through coordinated sales and distribution; establish a Joint Business Agreement on specific Canada-Latin America routes to facilitate deeper commercial integration; expand codeshare cooperation throughout the Americas and beyond, including for travel between Latin America and other international markets via Canadian gateways; and strengthen connectivity between Canada and key Latin American markets.
Additionally, both will improve the customer experience to offer more seamless travel, including better disruption management, coordinated airport services, easier connections, and coordinated baggage regulations. Increased earning and redemption opportunities as well as better recognition across both networks will result from their strengthened frequent flyer cooperation.
