Sri Lanka Tourism holds awareness events in Chennai, Mumbai and New Delhi.

The esteemed panel discussed connectivity, lodging capacity, destination readiness, and joint venture potential between Sri Lanka and the Indian tourist industry.
In order to reaffirm Sri Lanka’s readiness to welcome visitors and strengthen tourism ties with the Indian travel trade and media, the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) successfully held a Sri Lanka Tourism Awareness Session in New Delhi on January 7, Mumbai on January 8, and Chennai on January 9, 2026.
A successful Sri Lanka tourism awareness session was held in New Delhi with the goal of educating the Indian media and travel industry on Sri Lanka’s preparedness to receive tourists. Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to New Delhi, Mahishini Colonne, the Chairman and Assistant Director of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB), Buddhika Hewawasam and Shirani Herath, Nalin Jayasundera, the President of the Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators (SLAITO), Anura Lokuhetty, the former President of the Hotels Association of Sri Lanka (THASL), and Fawzan Fareid, the Regional Manager for India, Bangladesh, and Nepal for SriLankan Airlines, represented the session. Dr. Ganesanathan Geathiswaran, the Consul General of Sri Lanka in Chennai, attended the Chennai session, while Priyanga Wickremasinghe, the Consul General of Sri Lanka in Mumbai, was present.
The conversation reiterated Sri Lanka’s steadfast dedication to the Indian market, emphasising improved air connectivity, a wide range of travel options, and tight cooperation between the public and commercial sectors. In addition to answering questions from the media and trade, the interactive Q&A session bolstered relationships and confidence to increase Indian visitor arrivals.
With an all-time high of 2,362,521 visitors, last year was a major turning point for Sri Lankan tourism. With 531,511 arrivals, or 22.3% of the total market share, India notably recorded its highest-ever contribution, solidifying its status as Sri Lanka’s top source market.
The Sri Lankan team hosted a panel discussion and presentations during the awareness event, which highlighted the country’s many tourism options in the areas of leisure, culture, wellness, adventure, wildlife, MICE, and weddings. Improved air connectivity, smooth travel facilitation, and the nation’s dedication to giving Indian tourists safe, excellent, and unforgettable travel experiences were given particular attention.
During the discussion, Sri Lanka Tourism representatives underlined the significance of India as a major source market. They restated Sri Lanka’s proactive strategy for interacting with travel partners in order to deliver precise and timely information.
The meeting also covered current traveler concerns and the steps being taken to guarantee continuous tourism services and tourist trust.
