The Plaza Hotel will close for four years for refurbishment.

The Plaza, a famous hotel in New York City, has announced that it would close for a minimum of four years starting in January 2027 in order to perform significant restoration and repair work on its landmark-protected façade.

The scheduled shutdown coincides with the historic property’s preparation for restoration projects that call for careful planning, collaboration with pertinent parties, and adherence to historic preservation regulations.

Since its opening in 1907, The Plaza has played a significant role in the architectural and cultural legacy of New York City for over a century. The property, which is renowned for its unique architecture and craftsmanship, is undergoing restoration in order to maintain the building’s historic identity and guarantee its long-term maintenance.

The hotel claims that the extent and intricacy of the façade restoration necessitate careful consideration of preservation standards, long-term building upkeep, and the safety of visitors, staff, and the local community.

The project is still in the planning stages, and a number of factors pertaining to how the restoration work will be carried out are still being evaluated.

The resort has chosen to halt operations until the restoration is completed due to the magnitude of the project and the substantial disruption it would create to hotel operations.

A final reopening date has not yet been established, however the shutdown is anticipated to last at least four years.
