Following Hurricane Melissa’s devastating effects, tourism has returned to Jamaica
The restoration of vital infrastructure and the readiness of resorts and attractions to receive international tourists, especially those from India, are the results of collaboration between the Jamaican government, communities, and tourism stakeholders.
The Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) has declared that the island’s tourist industry will resume on December 15, 2025, and it is once again welcoming visitors from across the world.
After Hurricane Melissa’s devastating effects in late October 2025, a thorough recovery effort was initiated, culminating in this milestone. According to an official statement, strong collaboration between the Jamaican government, communities, and tourism stakeholders has resulted in the restoration of vital infrastructure and the complete preparation of resorts and attractions for reopening. Significant foreign assistance greatly aided this quick recovery, guaranteeing both a quick return to routine and increased long-term resilience.
Important reopenings are in progress
One of the first large resorts to open to visitors was Sandals Resorts International, which on December 6, 2025, reopened five resorts, including Sandals Dunn’s River Resort, Sandals Ocho Rios, and Beaches Negril Resort & Spa.
On December 15, 2025, Half Moon Jamaica will begin a phased reopening, starting with “Eclipse at Half Moon” and its refurbished villas.
In Montego Bay, Negril, Ocho Rios, Kingston, and the South Coast, dozens of hotels, guesthouses, and villas are either open or have confirmed when they will reopen soon, offering a variety of lodging choices for any traveler.
Every major landmark and natural location has swiftly recovered. Famous tourist activities are open and running, including water sports, beach excursions, cultural tours, and rainforest explorations. The JTB has praised the reopening of key resorts such as Sandals Dunn’s River Resort as a symbolic sign of the island’s successful tourist recovery. Their notice further assures that the destination looks forward to welcoming international visitors, including the India market.
