The Tourism India Alliance (TIA) expresses concerns over airlines’ use of the “Look-in Option.”

In a formal letter to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the Tourism India Alliance (TIA) expressed concerns about the allegedly discriminatory application of the Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR) dated February 24, 2026.
The problem, according to TIA’s letter dated March 26, 2026, is that some airlines are only extending the 48-hour “Look-in option” to direct bookings, leaving out those made through travel agencies, online travel agencies (OTAs), and other distribution partners.
According to the alliance, this strategy produces disparities based on booking channels and departs from the guidelines’ passenger-centric aim.
TIA has expressed its worries to airlines, such as IndiGo and Air India, emphasising the inconsistent application of the clause and its consequences for travellers and the travel industry.
The group stressed that passenger rights must be maintained across distribution channels and that regulatory advantages should be applied consistently, regardless of the booking source. It also pointed out that the travel industry might be negatively impacted by the existing strategy.
TIA has stated that it will keep discussing the issue with industry stakeholders and authorities and will keep an eye on developments as answers come in.
