Polo Hotels & Resorts Unveils New Brand Identity and Expansion Plans.

The overarching goal is to establish an interconnected hospitality network that would allow tourists to discover the Northeast through a single brand environment, support regional tourism growth, and strategically increase its portfolio.
Polo Hotels & Resorts, which began as a single hotel in Shillong in 1991 and has evolved to become one of the biggest domestic hotel chains in Northeast India, is changing the hospitality scene in the area. With a renewed focus on experiential, destination-led hospitality, the brand has introduced a redesigned brand architecture, signalling the start of its next growth phase.
Founder and CEO Deval Tibrewalla described the brand’s development and its distinct strategic goal to create immersive, culturally grounded destinations throughout Northeastern India during a recent media conference in Delhi. As the company gets ready to expand operations and raise its profile nationally, he continued, the rebranding effort is intended to improve brand recall and consistency.
Over the course of three decades, the group, which was founded with Polo Towers in Shillong, has grown to almost fifteen hotels while keeping a strong regional focus. Tibrewalla emphasised the brand’s strong ties to the region and its people by saying, “We grew up from the Northeast, in the Northeast.”
Polo has purposefully concentrated on developing markets, in contrast to traditional hotel expansion methods that target established markets. According to Tibrewalla, the brand has developed a portfolio based on unique, location-led experiences, from waterfall-facing accommodations in Cherrapunji to the only floating hotel in India in Kolkata.
Boosting the NE region’s tourism boom
With forthcoming developments in Nagaland (Kohima and Dimapur), Mizoram (Aizawl), Assam, Tripura, and other regions, the brand is rapidly expanding throughout Northeast and Eastern India.
Planters Lodge in Dooars (West Bengal), Silchar’s first five-star hotel under the Polo Group, as well as other hillside boutique hotels, tea estate resorts, and culturally immersive stays, are examples of new constructions that are all intended to capture the essence of their respective locales. The overarching goal is to build an interconnected hospitality network that would allow visitors to easily discover the Northeast through a single brand environment, support the region’s tourism growth, and strategically increase its portfolio.
We’ve always thought that the scenery, people, cultures, and seasons of Northeast India make it one of the world’s most remarkable places. With this experience launch, we’ve just given that belief a more distinct voice. Every experience we offer at Polo is one that only that property, in that location, at that moment in the year, can offer. It’s not a feature. The CEO explained, “That’s the whole point.”
Domestic demand is predominant.
Tibrewalla highlighted that improved air connectivity and expanding highway networks have significantly altered travel patterns. Today, it is much simpler to get to the Northeast. Travellers expect seamless access to experiences rather than spending hours on transit.
He revealed that travellers from the rest of India and those from within the North East make up the majority of the demand for his hotels. “Domestic tourism is expanding quickly thanks to improved infrastructure and raised awareness, even though inbound travel is still a small segment.” Additionally, the North-East is becoming a powerful home alternative as geopolitical uncertainties continue to affect outbound tourism, he continued.
Demand is also increasingly being driven by cultural events and music-led travel. Concerts and festivals have generated what the firm refers to as a “distinct experiential pull” in cities like Shillong, which are well-known for their robust music cultures.
